Chocolate Banana cake

November 03, 2018
This rich banana cake is the chocolate version of my favorite recipe for banana cake. Adding chocolate powder to a classic banana cake recipe will make it a family favourite.

2 cups mashed bananas (2 large bananas over riped)
250g brown sugar
250g Flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
250g butter
4 eggs
1tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp banana essence
1/4 cup fresh milk
30g Plums finely chopped (optional)
30g roasted cashews or walnuts (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celcius.
  2. Siflt flour, baking powder and cocoa powder together. Set aside.
  3. Beat butter and sugar well until creamy.  Add one egg at a time and beat well.
  4. Fold in the sifted flour mixture in to the batter using a spatula.
  5. Then add the mashed bananas and fold to incorporate.
  6. Mix baking soda with the milk and mix it into the batter.
  7. Finally add vanila essence and banana essence along with chopped plums and cashews.
  8. Pour it to a lined baking pan and bake for 30 minutes under 180 degrees Celsius, until the top layer becomes brown.
  9. After 30 minutes, cover the pan with foil and bake for another 30 minutes covered,  wen tooth pick inserted, it comes out clean.
  10. Let it cool completely and top with Chocolate Ganache. You can also serve it plain. Enjoy!
