Egg Roti

This is a delicious Sri Lankan Street Food. Egg roti is a flat bread stuffed with an egg. 


4 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp vegetable oil/ sunflower oil
1/2 cup vegetable oil
a pinch of bicarbonate soda
1/4 tsp salt or per taste
1/2 cup warm water (this is approximate, adjust accordingly)
2 large eggs slightly beaten with salt and pepper


  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl and knead well for about 10 minutes or until you get a soft and smooth dough. 
  2. Make small balls and pour 1/2 cup vegetable oil over the balls made. Keep it covered with a cling film / wet cloth to avoid drying. Let it sit for 2 hours. (Do not keep long)
  3. Heat a tawa or flat pancake pan to high heat. 
  4. After two hours, roll our each dough and put the slightly beaten egg mixture to the centre and fold it as shown in the picture below. Put a little oil to the hot pan and cook the egg roti turning both sides. Serve hot! Enjoy
